![]() Thankfully for all our wedding guests, I think we’ve come up with a decent compromise. (“Who wouldn’t want to listen to the Duck Tales theme song while eating appetizers?” “You can’t dance the Running Man or Roger Rabbit to ‘Heart of Gold’ Jon! We must play ‘Push It’! Now what about Skee-Lo?”) I like to operate under the assumption that everyone’s taste in music is as obscure and bad as my own. (Yes, I was sadly THAT bored.) The only song I recognized during the whole show was a Beatles cover played during the finale. After almost falling asleep from boredom, I kept busy by offering to go on beer runs for the group. This is the same phrase Jon used while trying to convince me to see Neil Young at Madison Square Garden. Jon operates under the assumption that most of our weding music should be “sitdown music”. ![]() (Yes, it’s the theme song for Short Circuit’s Johnny 5 and the perfect way to say “I love you”.*)Įxhibit B- Jon’s first CD compilation gift to me included Etta James’ “At Last” plus other thoughtful and romantic tunes. To really highlight our musical differences, I offer up these two pieces of evidence for the jury:Įxhibit A- the first mixed CD I ever gave Jon had “Who’s Johnny” by El DeBarge as the headliner. While Jon favors indie bands and anything from the 60’s or 70’s, I tend to rock out to pop music, country music, 90’s rap, obscure sitcom or cartoon theme songs, and any song ever played during a movie montage or end credits. ![]() Lately, Jon and my musical disagreements have centered around our wedding day. Only in our “Opposites Attract” scenario, Jon is more like Paula Abdul and I am the displaced, animated and questionably named “MC Skat Cat”.īut when we get together it just all works out To use a bad music analogy: we are like that Paula Abdul video where Paula dances in an alleyway with an animated cat that sounds like Will Smith. ![]() It is a well know and documented fact that Jon and I do not agree on much of anything, especially music. ![]()
